MANILA, Philippines (Xinhua) - The Philippine government has released P1.44 billion ($34 million) for its rice subsidy program benefiting 678,621 small-scale farmers and fishermen in the country, the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) said today.The department said in a statement that under the rice subsidy program, which started in May this year, the beneficiaries embarked on Cash-for-Training (CFT), a four-day program, where they were trained on disaster management and mitigation that included family and community preparedness.
